Police officer injured in alleged robbery getaway; three charged

Two Maryland men and a Washington, D.C. juvenile male are facing robbery and weapons charges for allegedly stealing from a 7-Eleven on Beacon Hill Road. Mount Vernon district police intend to add more criminal charges to the current list following an investigation of the trio's reported escapade.

Officers were summoned to the convenience store late on a recent Thursday evening after receiving reports that it was being robbed. A clerk told officers that a group of three men approached the 7-Eleven. Two came inside. One of the suspects apparently drew a gun and ordered the clerk to hand over cash. The alleged criminals then rejoined the third man and drove off in a light-colored Mercury Mountaineer. Witnesses provided officers with a vehicle description and license plate number and a search ensued.

According to police reports, the suspects' vehicle slammed into two cars as it headed along Richmond Highway near Fairhaven Avenue. The Mountaineer allegedly crashed into a police patrol car as it entered Quander Road, injuring the officer inside. The two men and the teenager reportedly tried to flee the scene on foot, but were taken into custody a short time later.

Mount Vernon police say the white Mercury used in the robbery was stolen from Prince Georges County. A 25-year-old Oxon Hill man was the alleged getaway driver and has been charged with a felony for speeding to elude authorities. All of the suspects, including the 17-year-old, were charged with robbery and using a firearm to commit a felony.

The investigation is ongoing with further charges pending.
