What is the booking process like after a DUI arrest?

|

When you are placed under arrest for any crime, including drunk driving, you will be booked into the local jail. In some cases, this is known as being processed. There are several different things that will happen during this process. Understanding them might help you to make it through the process.

What happens to the possessions that I had when I was arrested?

Personal items are confiscated when you are being booked into the jail. These items are placed in a safe location. When you are released from jail, they will be returned to you.

What information is gathered?

Your personal information, including your date of birth, name, photo, address, and other information is all collected. Your fingerprints and photos of any identifying marks might be collected. Your criminal history is searched, and information about the crime with which you are being charged is entered into the computer.

What happens when the booking process is completed?

There are a few different things that can happen after you are booked for a drunk driving charge. You might be taken to a cell where you will remain until you have a bail hearing and can post bail. You might be released on your own recognizance, which means you won’t have to pay a bail. You might be given a citation and released. In some cases, you might have to sober up before you are released.

Once you are booked on a DUI, you need to start thinking about how you are going defend yourself against the charge. This might be more complex than you realize, depending on the facts of the case.
