Juveniles usually doesn’t think that their actions will affect them for the rest of their life. Sadly, when they are accused of participating in criminal activities, the charges that might be placed against the young person can have a profound effect on the rest of his or her life. A recent case in Virginia Beach highlights this fact.
A 17-year-old is being held without bond at the Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Center on a first degree murder charge. The teen is also facing charges for the use of a firearm, robbery, and conspiracy to commit a felony. The juvenile is said to have been a participant in the death of a 19-year-old man on June 16.
Another person, a 30-year-old man, was also charged in connection with this murder. Police were called to the scene to respond to a report of a person in possible cardiac arrest.
It is sad to think of a juvenile having to stand up against charges this serious. No matter what part this juvenile had in the incident, it is imperative that the teen carefully considers all points necessary in his defense. These charges could lead to considerable penalties for this individual.
While the juvenile justice system does differ from the adult criminal justice system, juveniles must still take matters like this seriously. The parents of the juvenile might decide to play an active role in the case. Understanding how the system works and knowing the possible courses of action that can occur might help the parents as they walk through the system with their child.
