When you get your mail in, you probably don’t think that what you are getting in will lead to you being arrested. While that is true for most people, there is one man in James City County who is now facing drug charges in connection with a package that was mailed to him in April.
A complaint about a package sent to a home was filed by the U.S. Postal Service. On April 2, agents from the Tri-Rivers Drug Task Force made the delivery to the home’s address. They kept watch over the package until the 67-year-old man went to get it. As the man was leaving the home in Seasons Trace, he was pulled over in a traffic stop. He was reportedly going to get $100 for delivering the package, which contained pounds of marijuana, to another person.
The man pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. In accordance with his plea deal, the man was sentenced to 10 years. The judge suspended all but three months of that sentence. Those three months were to account for the three months the man has been in jail while waiting for his court proceedings.
When you consider this man’s charge and the potential sentence, you can probably see that the deal he got was a good one. Those who are facing drug charges might be able to seek plea deals, but working with someone familiar with drug cases in Virginia can likely help them to understand their options about how to plead and how to handle their defense.
