A 48-year-old man who works as a Loudoun County, Virginia, physical education teacher has been accused of intoxicated driving. Other charges against him include possessing alcoholic beverages on school premises and driving without a valid driver’s license. Following his arrest, officials at Cedar Lane Elementary School, located in Ashburn, placed him on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.
The arrest, according to police, came after a fellow employee reported that his behavior was strange. A sheriff’s department school resource officer then arrived and administered a field sobriety test. After it was determined that the teacher had driven to school that day, he was arrested for drunk driving.
The defendant has worked in the Loudoun County public school system for approximately nine years and had previously worked in the Fairfax, Virginia school system for a five-year period. Following his arrest, he posted a $2,500 bond and was released.
The aftermath of the arrest shows that DUI arrests and the prospect of a conviction can often have severe repercussions, including on a person’s job. Such charges can also result in damage to a person’s reputation and the loss of driving privileges, incarceration, and fine if a conviction occurs.
