Motorist accused of drunk driving after hitting bike rider

A 28-year-old female motorist has been charged with drunk driving after police claimed she struck a bicycle rider with her car in the evening in Vienna, Virginia. Police claimed that she was not capable of performing a field sobriety test and appeared intoxicated. She reportedly declined to submit to a breathalyzer test and is currently facing additional criminal charges for that refusal.

Legislator to admit intoxicated boating charge

A member of the Maryland House of Delegates, Donald H. Dwyer Jr., has indicated that he will enter a plea of guilty to criminal charges of boating while intoxicated. The decision was made as part of a plea deal that will prevent the legislator from being incarcerated.

Man gets 8-year sentence for DUI, other charge

A Virginia man found guilty of involuntary manslaughter following an auto accident in which he was charged with a DUI is maintaining his innocence. Because of his insistence he is not guilty, however, he now will spend three additional years in prison.

Judge finds police error in Virginia DUI case

A judge has ruled that a Fairfax, Virginia, police officer did not have cause to pull over a driver in December and threw out the drunk driving charges against the man. That driver, the former head of the Federal Aviation Administration, resigned from his position after his arrest. That ended the man's tenure in federal government, a profession he entered after a 25-year career as a commercial airline pilot.

Quantico wrong in handling of DUI cases, judge says

A federal judge has ruled that the civil rights of five drivers cited for drunk driving at the Quantico Marine Corps base in Northern Virginia were violated and has dismissed the cases. It shows the necessity of the appeals process, and that the government can be overzealous in punishing people.
