If you were arrested for a theft crime in Fairfax or the surrounding areas, you could be charged with either petty larceny or grand larceny. Under Virginia law, petty larceny is stealing something worth less than $1,000 and is usually a misdemeanor. If the value of the property was $1,000 or more, the theft will be charged as grand larceny. Grand larceny is a felony theft crime.
