Assault charged filed for former Virginia Tech football player

When emotions run high, people may do things that they wouldn't normally do. A recent incident that involves an National Football League player who formerly played for Virginia Tech shows just how quickly things can go downhill.

The incident involves Joshua Morgan, who recently signed on to play with the Bears. He was at a nightclub with a woman at around 1:30 in the morning when he allegedly punched a man. The man, who says he was outside, claims that the NFL player got upset when he looked at the player's companion.

The man claims that he didn't say anything to cause Morgan's alleged attack on him. The man reportedly suffered an abrasion in the incident, in which he says he was hit in the lip after being pushed. He says people who were with the football player surrounded him. The man says he didn't know who Morgan was until he searched for him online after hearing the man's name at the police station.

Morgan was released with his next court appearance set for May 22 for the misdemeanor assault charge. A spokesman for the Bears, who weren't aware of the charge, says that the franchise doesn't have a comment on the charge against the player.

This misdemeanor charge against Morgan might prove to be disruptive to his life. With his team in another state, he will have to travel back and forth the Washington, D.C. area as this case progresses. Before his court appearance later this month, he should make sure that he becomes familiar with the prosecution's case against him so he can determine how to defend himself.
