Man from Virginia facing DUI charges after deadly accident

A man from Hampton, Virginia, was involved in an accident with a motorcycle in South Carolina. The motorcyclist was killed in the crash. The man will now be arrested on DUI charges. Since it was a deadly accident, they are felony charges.

As of the latest reports, the man had not technically been arrested yet. He was also hurt in the crash and was in the hospital. He's 52-years old. Police did note that he'd be arrested when he was well enough to be released from the medical facility.

The allegations against the main claim that he was turning from Riviera Drive, in Mount Pleasant, and trying to make his way onto the connector for the Isle of Palms. However, he appears to have driven in front of a motorcycle with a 23-year-old rider. The motorcycle slammed into the door on the driver's side of the vehicle, and that young man passed away at the crash site.

Emergency crews then brought the older driver to Medical University Hospital. This all happened right around four in the afternoon.

The outcome of the case will likely have a huge impact on the rest of the man's life. He could get as many as 25 years behind bars. However, the smallest sentence he could see is just a single year. At 52 years old already, that's a dramatic difference.

When the sentence that is handed down can be so harsh, it is very important that those accused of driving under the influence get a fair, just trial. This is not something to take lightly, as the ramifications will play out for years, and drivers must know their legal defense options.
