Physical violence against a parent by a child is serious

When most people think of abuse in families, they think of parents abusing children. That, however, isn't the only type of abuse that occurs in families. In some cases, teens might hit their parents or other family members. While this is illegal in Virginia, it is often a cry for help from the children. For that reason, it is vital for juveniles who are charged with this type of crime to get help. It is also a reason for the other family members to get help.

The truth of the matter is that the abuse of a parent by a child of any age can be devastating. In some cases, these matters are kept behind closed door because the parents may feel ashamed. They might even want to protect their children. That, however, can lead to problems later in life.

It is important for parents to realize that there are options for getting help. It won't do any good for the child or other children in the home if the parent is injured to the point that he or she must seek medical attention that leads to hospitalization. A child with an anger issue, whether the child is a younger child, a preteen or a teenager, might benefit from anger management workshops and other programs to help him or her learn how to manage his or her feelings.

Sadly, there are some children who will face the juvenile justice system or the criminal justice system because they abuse their parents. In those cases, children have the right to have legal representation so they can offer a defense. The representation might also help them to get the help they need to learn from their problems.
