Woman arrested on check theft charges

A 25-year-old woman has been arrested in Virginia and faces theft-related charge. Authorities claim that she purloined a friend's blank checks and began fraudulently passing them in various locations. They also say that she went to her friend's house with three other people who waited for her outside in a car while she went inside.

A lieutenant from the Iredell County Sheriff's office asserted that the woman's friend reported last November that she had tried to buy something at a business and was told that she had a lack of funds in her bank account. She subsequently discovered that her checks had apparently been used to make unauthorized transactions. After an investigation, her friend was arrested and charged with larceny, passing a forged check and getting specified property by a false pretense.

Two separate forged checks were allegedly passed, each at a different bank. Two different people were allegedly involved in passing the checks. The woman whose checks were allegedly taken reportedly identified the defendant as one of them from a video surveillance tape from a bank. The arrestee's bond was set at $10,000 by a court. A second person was subsequently also arrested on charges connected to the checks. There was no word on what bond, if any, was set for them.

Larceny and theft charges are regarded as very serious and can result in a prolonged period of incarceration upon conviction. Accordingly, those accused of similar charges should consider retaining an experienced and knowledgeable criminal defense attorney at the earliest possible time to evaluate the case, as well as exploring the possibility of mitigating the charges or punishment.
