RONALD E. SMITH: My top priority when it comes to my clients is protecting them, protecting them from the full force of
criminal prosecution. It is a daunting task sometimes.
Basically, they have only one friend in the court. And that's me. My range of experience basically covers 30 years of in-court experience daily. People wonder what the approach is in handling cases. And that really depends on the person themselves, who's the client.
We have to know the whole person, the entire person. We need to know something about their family life, their professional life so that whatever we do in assisting them that we take into account all of these variables. I have a real sense of justice. My concern is to see that the outcome is a just one and a fair one for my client, taking into account the case that's against them. What I want to do for my clients is to protect them from the full brunt of the law and get them out of that court with their life intact.
